Please join Oxford Research Group for a special webinar to mark the launch of its Sustainable Security Index.
The first of its kind, the Index measures 155 states’ impact on global insecurity. The Index report makes the case for why states need to rethink their approaches to security. This means moving beyond narrow understandings of the concept and towards an integrated approach that addresses broader threats to human security, such as climate change, poor governance, pandemics and inequality.
The report also seeks to spark a broader conversation about how to benchmark and measure national contributions to global insecurity.
At the webinar, an expert panel, including Dr Rachel Kleinfeld, Delina Goxho and Dr Oliver Scanlan, will discuss the report’s key themes and findings.

Speakers
Dr. Rachel Kleinfeld: Rachel advises governments, philanthropists, and activists on how democracies make major social change. As a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, she focuses on countries facing violence, corruption, and other problems of poor governance. In 2010, Time magazine named Rachel one of the top 40 political leaders under 40 in America for her decade as the founding CEO of the Truman National Security Project, which assisted campaigns, advocated for legislation, and fostered a new generation of military veterans and national security leaders to enhance global security, democracy, and human dignity. In 2011, Hillary Clinton appointed Rachel to the Foreign Affairs Policy Board, which advised the Secretary of State quarterly, a role she served through 2014. Rachel is the author of three books, and has appeared in national and international media, from the BBC and Washington Post to Fox and Friends. She received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.Phil. and D.Phil. from Oxford University, which she attended as a Rhodes scholar.
Dr. Ollie Scanlan: Oliver is a Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Development, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, based in Dhaka. He is currently the Bangladesh lead for a joint European Union funded research project examining the access of vulnerable groups to land administration reform where ULAB is partnering with Dublin City University and Wageningen University and Research. He also co-ordinates the Project Management Group. His research interests include land administration and biodiversity and conservation and their relationship to resilience, climate change and equity, particularly focusing on ethnic and religious minorities. He has been an Oxford Research Group Fellow since May 2018. Prior to this he was Senior Programme Officer for ORG's Sustainable Security Programme, where he led ORG's work on Climate Security. He is a Research Fellow of Dublin City University's Institute for International Conflict Resolution and Reconstruction
Delina Goxho: Delina is an independent security analyst working for the Open Society Foundations, currently covering the Sahel, security sector assistance and armed drones. Prior to this, Delina has been an analyst and researcher for Open Society's portfolio on armed drones, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Defence and Security Committee and the Task Force Iran at the European External Action Service.
Abigail Watson: Abigail is ORG’s Research Manager. She researches and presents on the military, legal, and political implications of remote warfare. She has produced over 50 blogs, briefings, podcasts and reports on this subject and has presented her work at, among others, Chatham House, the Cabinet Office, the Stabilisation Unit, the Ministry of Defence and the ICRC.
Alasdair McKay: Alasdair is ORG’s Senior Editor. He is responsible for the strategic direction of ORG’s communications, managing and developing the organisation’s digital presence, and overseeing its publication processes. Prior to joining ORG, he worked in digital publishing. He has also worked for an African human rights NGO and in the office of an MP.
Liam Walpole: Liam is ORG’s Policy Manager. He leads the team’s engagement with the UK Parliament, political parties, and policymakers. Liam has written articles for Open Democracy, Democratic Audit and 1828, and co-hosts ORG’s monthly Westminster Round Up podcast. Previously, Liam worked for two Conservative Members of Parliament at the House of Commons.
