Chair of the Board of Trustees

Fiyaz Mughal was elected Chair of ORG’s Board of Trustees in June 2018. He is the Founder and Director of the not-for-profit organisation Faith Matters, which works extensively on community cohesion, interfaith, conflict resolution and prevention programmes at a local, national and international level, including developing platforms for discourse and interaction between Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Jewish communities.

A social entrepreneur, Fiyaz has also founded the national anti-Muslim hate crime monitoring project TELL MAMA and the NO2H8 Crime Awards. He has campaigned extensively on Black and Minority Ethnic (group) inclusion within political parties and discourses. Since 2005 he has been appointed to advise various government and parliamentary committees and political leaders on community cohesion, equalities and countering extremism and hate crime.

Fiyaz was previously an elected Councillor in Oxford (2002-2004) and Haringey (2006-2010) and Deputy President (2007-2008) of the Liberal Democrats political party in the UK, although he is no longer active in any party. He has an MBA and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He was awarded an OBE in 2009 in recognition of his services to the voluntary sector.
