From February 1-3, Oxford Research Group co-hosted the second Shabwa and Al-Mahra Strategic Forum with the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The forum’s goal was to start a conversation around the main development issues facing local communities in Yemen, with the long-term aim of establishing a strong link between local and international stakeholders.

ORG’s Marwa Babbaad, Head of International Projects, and Oliver Ramsbotham, a consultant to ORG, joined an expert panel to discuss the methodologies for strategic planning and mechanisms to bolster peace efforts on a national level in Yemen, particularly in the Shabwa and Al-Mahra governorates.

Thirty participants from both governorates were present at the forum, during which they identified priorities to support and strengthen the role of local authorities in meeting the citizens’ needs in their respective areas.
