From 8-9 February 2020, Marwa Baabbad, ORG’s Head of International Projects, spoke at OxFID at the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. The event is the largest student-led development conference in Europe. The conference explored why traditional development actors have often failed to fulfil what they set out to achieve when addressing pressing issues like climate breakdown and extreme inequality. It brought together a diverse range of stakeholders who engaged in dialogue and collaboration in the pursuit of more impactful solutions to global problems.

Marwa joined a distinguished panel to discuss inclusive approaches to peacebuilding. Despite strong evidence that inclusive peace processes are more successful and sustainable, groups like women and minorities are still often excluded from the process. The panel discussed concrete measures that can be taken to achieve more inclusive and diverse peace processes.

Marwa fed into the talk by drawing on her expertise on the role of women and youth in peacebuilding in Yemen. The panel was moderated by Amanda Taub. Marwa’s co-panellists were Nima Elbagir, Mishana Hosseinioun and Alex De Waal.
