Towards Sustainable Security:
Oxford Research Group International Security Report 2007
Professor Paul Rogers, October 2007
The fourth in a series of annual reports based on ORG's international
security monthly briefings by Paul Rogers, this report comprises
those briefings from May 2006 to April 2007. Tackling events in chronological
order over, the report offers a clear and compelling account of a
'war on terror' that has gone wrong in every major respect and is
in urgent need of a comprehensive re-thinking of the entire outlook.
The report analyses what was essentially the fourth year of the Iraq
War, while also discusses the evolving conflict in Afghanistan, increasing
tensions with Iran, developments in US, British and coalition military
postures and the wider global security environment including the potential
impact of resource conflicts and climate change.
It questions current policies in the 'war on terror' and argues for
the adoption of a new security paradigm which primarily political
rather than military and is sustainable in the long term rather than
responding to immediate threats with considerable force.
