ORG has published An Uncertain Future: Law Enforcement, National Security and Climate Change, a new report by Chris Abbott, which explores the environmental, socio-economic and security consequences of climate change and demonstrates that they will present new challenges to governments trying to maintain domestic stability.


ORG internships

We are now advertising two new internships at ORG. The first is due to start at the end of February and will focus on assisting with our Counting the casualties project. The second is due to start at the beginning of April and will focus on assisting with our Moving towards sustainable security project. The closing date for both placements is Friday 8 February and interviews will take place on Tuesday 19 February.

How has the British peace movement developed and changed over the past decades, and what are the challenges facing it today? ORG's Executive Director, John Sloboda, has recently published two analytical articles on this with co-author Brian Doherty. These follow earlier ORG publications on the motivations of the anti-Iraq War demonstrators of 2003, and a report by the late Janet Bloomfield on making peace and security NGOs more effective. The current articles analyse the growth and transformation of the British peace movement (PDF) from the 1950s to the present day, and argue that contemporary conditions offer unique challenges for united and effective civil society activism (PDF).


Honorary Treasurer (Trustee)

ORG is looking to recruit an Honorary Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees and oversee our finances at a time of transition and growth. The appointment requires a commitment of approximately one day a month and is for a period of up to 3 years. The position is voluntary but expenses are paid.
